Bishop Rowan Williams was born in Wales and studied theology at Cambridg and Oxford. He has worked in both academic and pastoral settings and, after serving as Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity at Oxford, became Bishop of Monmouth in 1992, Archbishop of Wales in 1999, and Archbishop of Canterbury in 2002. He was Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge, from 2012 to 2020. He is the author of many books on theology, spiirutlaity and culture, including recently Christ the Heart of Creation,Looking East in Winter, and Solidarity: the Work of Recognition. He is a Fllow of the British Academy and of the Learned Society of Wales.
